10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Nepal

Nepal is home to ten United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites. The sites are of cultural and natural value, and they help to preserve and promote Nepal's rich legacy. Nepal contains eight cultural and two natural world heritage sites. They are listed as follows:

• Cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Nepal:

1. Pashupatinath Temple (Nepal’s largest Hindu temple, listed in 1979)

2. Boudhanath/Boudha Stupa (Nepal’s largest stupa, listed in 1979)

3. Swayambhunath Stupa (Nepal’s oldest stupa, listed in 1979)

4. Changu Narayan Temple (Nepal’s oldest Hindu temple, listed in 1979)

5. Kathmandu Durbar Square, listed in 1979

6. Patan Durbar Square, listed in 1979

7. Bhaktapur Durbar Square, listed in 1979

8. Lumbini (the birthplace of lord Gautam Buddha, listed in 1997)

• Natural UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Nepal:

1. Sagarmatha National Park, listed in 1979 (Nepal’s first natural World Heritage site)

2. Chitwan National Park, listed in 1984 (Nepal’s first national park, established in 1973)
