Chitwan National Park is a well-known park in Nepal, located in the subtropical southwestern central terai area. It covers four districts in Nepal: Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Makawanpur, and Parsa. It was founded in 1973 AD as Nepal's first national park, and it was later designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 AD. It has an area of about 950 square kilometers. It is renowned for its unique natural beauty, which includes deep woods, wildlife, meadows, rivers, and wetlands.
Chitwan National Park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, leopards, sloth bears, Asian elephants, deer, and gharial crocodiles. The park has around 500 bird species, 68 animal species, 56 herpetofauna species, and 126 fish species. The park contains a variety of trees, including sal, chir pine, and pinus roxpurbhii. Another alternative is to fly from Kathmandu to Bharatpur Airport, which is located near Chitwan National Park. The drive from Bharatpur Airport to the park takes about 40 minutes.
